Product detailed description

Farm: El Jardín
Region: Montecillos
Variety: Parainema
Altitude: 1400–1650 m a.s.l.
Importer: Fest Coffee Mission
Harvest: 2025

El Jardín farm was established in 1981, and Mario Samuel Mejía Rodríguez inherited it from his father. The family has four generations of coffee growers who now focus on producing high-quality coffees for specialty markets.

El Jardín is located at an altitude of 1400–1650 m a.s.l. in the La Paz region in the southwest of Honduras, near the Montecillos Nature Reserve. The local Lenca people call this area “the place of stone” due to its mountainous terrain and dense jungle cover. The La Paz region is characterized by clay-loam soils and a temperate climate, which gives the coffee trees fewer daylight hours – reducing yield but improving cup quality.

Finca El Jardín covers 20 hectares, part of which produces 85+ cupping score coffee, while another 12 hectares yield coffee around 83 points. In addition to coffee, they also grow avocados.

The farm strives to work in harmony with nature – using organic matter and chemical fertilizers as nutritional supplements. For example, by-products of coffee processing are reused as organic fertilizer. They have also implemented experimental tree plantings to improve water retention during summer and prevent soil erosion caused by heavy winter rains.

Mario Samuel cultivates varieties of Brazilian origin known for their excellent productivity and outstanding cup quality, complemented by Salvadoran varieties. Coffee quality is carefully monitored through regular cuppings conducted for each dried lot.

We roast coffee 3 times a week, ensuring it always reaches you freshly roasted. We’ve been roasting our own coffee since 2019 in Silůvky, Moravia.
