Product detailed description
Chashaku is a traditional handcrafted Japanese spoon made from light bamboo, designed for precise measuring of matcha tea. It is one of the basic tools of the Japanese tea ceremony and an essential part of authentic matcha preparation.
The curved part of the spoon is used to scoop a small amount of matcha powder, which is then placed into a chawan bowl. The matcha is then whisked with water into a smooth consistency using a bamboo whisk called chasen. This allows the tea to be prepared accurately and in keeping with traditional methods.
For a well-balanced taste, one to two spoons of chashaku are usually used for approximately 100 ml of water. This ratio is ideal for preparing everyday matcha tea, which is known for its delicate flavor, light texture, and pleasant foam.
Chashaku is also used when preparing koicha, a thick style of matcha tea. In this case, 4–6 spoonfuls of chashaku are measured into 150 ml of hot water. The resulting drink is much thicker, sweeter, and more difficult to whisk. Koicha is therefore served almost exclusively as part of the Japanese tea ceremony.
This bamboo spoon is not only a practical tool, but also a symbol of respect for tradition and precision, which are characteristic of matcha tea preparation. If you are looking for authentic matcha accessories, chashaku is an essential part of your set.
